Your first day of trekking will take you on a 9.32 km trail with an elevation of 94 metres, and will take 2 and a half hours depending on your fitness level. There are various rest stops during the trek.
Note: This is an easy walk, the road is good and clear and the village is working to widen the road so that trucks can pass. You cross the Paunkumu River 12 times, but most of these crossings are shallow and rarely over thigh high. Heavy rains at time can make the road unpassable, so be sure to check the local weather each day before you set out.

On your second day trekking in Malekula, you leave Melken for Labongbong. You will follow a trail for 17.39 km, with an elevation of 840 metres at its highest, finishing at 540 metres. This leg is expected to 6 hour, and with a total of 2 hours of rest, is a full day of trekking.
Note: This is a difficult trek. There is one very steep climb that gains over 500 metres of elevation very quickly, with a fresh water source located at the top. There are some river crossings early on and areas with soft mud.
Malekula – Labongbong to Lawa
Moderate to difficult hike, featuring magnificent waterfalls and rivers!

Notes: This is a moderate to difficult hike, with lots of mud. There are three climbs, including one steep one after you cross the Matanoi River gaining 300 metres of elevation in less than a kilometer. There is a large waterfall at the river, which you can jump under and cool off.
